Inductance
Inductance is represented by the letter L and is expressed in terms of henry (H), that's the unit of inductance.
LT - Series = L1 + L2 + ... Ln
Total inductance of coils connected in series is equal to the sum of the individual inductances
Example: What's the total induction (L) of the coils below:
Since the coils are connected in series, we use:
LT - Series = L1 + L2 + L3 + L4
LT - Series = 4H + 2H + 2H + 6H
LT = 14H
LT - Parallel = L1 + L2 + ... Ln
Total inductance of coils connected in parallel is equal to the sum of the individual inductances.
Example: What's the total induction (L) of the coils below
Since the coils are connected in parallel, we use:
1/ LT = 1/L1 + 1/L2 + 1/L3 + 1/L4
1/ LT = 1/4 + 1/2 + 1/2 + 1/6
Common Denominator is 12.
1/LT = 3/12 + 6/12 + 6/12 + 2/12
1/LT = 17 ÷ 17 / 12 ÷ 17
1/LT = 1/ 12/17
LT = 12/17 H or 0.7 H
