How to Apply for Plumbing Contractor License?

Plumbing Contractor Application Checklist

To become a plumbing contractor in Indiana, you will need to:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have at least 4 years plumbing apprenticeship experience
  • Be a licensed plumber in another state OR Have at least 4 years plumbing experience under the direction of a licensed plumbing contractor
  • Submit an original passport-sized photograph
  • Pay the application fee (check or money order made payable to the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency)
  • Submit an approved school sponsor signature and current/active plumbing license
  • Complete the Personal Background Section of the application
  • Submit the Application Affirmation Section, signed and dated

To become a journeyman plumbier in Indiana, you will need to:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Fill out the applicant information section
  • Submit an priginal photograph-passport size-attached to application
  • Submit the application payment (check or money order made payable to the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency)
  • Have Four (4) years of Experience in Plumbing Trade
  • Submit your Employer Affidavit of Experience in Plumbing Trade (signature required)
  • Notarize the Certificate Section (signature of employer required) in the application
  • Submit a Copy of current/active out-of-state plumbing license
  • Complete the Personal Background Section
  • Sign and date the Application Affirmation Section

How do I apply for an Elevator Contractor License?

Start by registering with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security Public Safety Portal. Then choose Request New Permit or License.

Documents and requirements needed to apply:

  • Proof of eligibility by having either at least three (3) years of documented work experience in the elevator industry in construction, maintenance and service or repair OR eighteen (18) months experience in the elevator industry in construction, maintenance and service or repair and have at least three (3) years’ experience in a related field that is certified by a licensed elevator contractor.
  • RECIPROCITY: Currently hold an elevator mechanic license issued by another state.
  • You have successfully completed NAEC Certified Elevator Technician (CET) Exam
  • You have successfully completed NEIEP Elevator Mechanics Exam
  • Proof of Insurance:Certificate of Insurance that complies with the requirements of IC 22-15-5-14.
  • Proof of Workers’ Compensation demonstrating that you are covered by workers' compensation under IC 22-3-2-5.
  • A credit card or an echeck ready to pay the fee upon completion of the application.
