Once you have been approved to take an exam you will need to Schedule and Pay for the exam. An applicant has 90 days from acceptance to schedule and takes the appropriate exam.

Due to Covid and limited testing blocks are not allowing those who have already achieved a passing score on their exam to re-examine for a higher score.

How to get an Idaho Limited Installer Electrician Contractor License

The following information is how to apply for the Limited Electrical Installer License

All schooling and work experience must have been obtained per State requirements.

In order to qualify for the Limited Electrical Installer exam an applicant must:

  • Submit notarized documentation of two (2) years (a minimum of 4,000 hrs) of work experience within the scope of the limited category. The experience must be in compliance with the rules of the state in which the experience was obtained.
  • Submit a completed application (included).
  • Pay the $15 (non-refundable) application fee.
  • Successfully pass the examination.

Upon application approval:

Exam information will be sent to the applicant.

In order to qualify for the Outside Wireman (Lineman) Limited Electrical Installer license an applicant must:

  • Submit documentation of having completed an Electrical Lineman apprenticeship program or similar program approved by the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Apprenticeship. With this documentation no exam is required at this time.
  • Submit a completed application (included).
  • Pay the $15 (non-refundable) application and the $55 license fee.

In order to qualify for the Photovoltaic (Solar) Limited Electrical Installer license an applicant must:

  • Submit notarized documentation of two (2) years (a minimum of 4,000 hrs) of work experience.
  • Submit North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) PV Installer Certificate.
  • Submit a completed application (included).
  • Pay the $15 (non-refundable) application fee.
  • Successfully pass the examination.

Please Note: If the applicant does not take the exam within 90 days of approval, he/she must reapply.

Idaho Limited Installer Contractor License

Any person or entity providing or offering to provide specialty electrical contracting services, including, but not limited to, submitting a bid. Must either be or employ at least one (1) full-time Idaho Specialty Electrician of the same category who has held a license for a minimum of two (2) years.

How to get an Idaho Limited Electrical Contractor License

The following information is how to apply for the Limited Electrical Contractor License

To qualify for the Limited Electrical Contractor exam as an INDIVIDUAL an applicant must:

  • Be or employ an Idaho licensed Limited Electrical Installer in the same category as the Limited Electrical Contractor who has held such license for a minimum of two (2) years.
  • Be the individual to be licensed.
  • Submit a completed application (included)
  • Pay the $15 (non-refundable) application fee.

To qualify for the Limited Electrical Contractor exam as an ENTITY an applicant must:

  • Be a full-time supervisory employee of the corporation, company, etc. serving as the entity’s representative for examination purposes.
  • Employ an Idaho licensed Limited Electrical Installer in the same category as the Limited Electrical Contractor who has held such license for a minimum of two (2) years, who is available during working hours to supervise all electrical work conducted.
  • Submit a completed application.
  • Pay the $15 (non-refundable) application fee.

Upon application approval:

Exam information will be sent to the applicant.

Upon passing the exam an applicant must: Submit proof of $300,000 Liability Insurance and Worker’s Compensation Insurance or statement of exemption for Worker’s Compensation (if applicable) and pay the $125 license fee.
