Hawaii Elevator (C-16) Contractor License
The Elevator (C-16) Contractor License allows you to work with:
- Electrical, hydraulic, and manually operated elevators
- Dumb waiters
- Moving walks or ramps
- Conveyor systems
- Lifts
- Stage Lifts
- Escalators
- Sheave beams
- Motors
- Sheaves
- Cables and wire rope
- Guides
- Cabs
- Counterweights
- Door assemblies
- Hydraulic, signal, and automatic and manual control systems
How to Get the Elevator (C-16) Contractor’s License in Hawaii?
- Meet the experience requirements: Be not less than 18 years of age, have 4 years of supervisory experience within the past 10 years, and be employed by a licensed contracting entity
- Register with the Hawaii Business Registration Division
- Possess a good reputation for honesty, truthfulness, financial integrity, and fair dealing
- Obtain liability and workers' compensation insurance
- Employ a licensed individual who is designated Responsible Managing Employee (RME)
- Attach the application fee (non-refundable) to your application
- Fill & submit your Application to the Honolulu Office on or before the first Tuesday of the month, two months prior to the scheduled meeting date
- Send a current (not more than a year old) Financial Statement accompanied by an independent accountant's report
- Provide a credit report for each officer, partner, manager, or member, (from a credit reporting agency issued not more than 6 months ago) covering at least the previous 5 years
- Complete a Hawaii State Tax Clearance (issued not more than 6 months old) with an original State of Hawaii Department of Taxation stamp
- Submit a filed-stamped copy of current trade name registration approved by the Hawaii Business Registration Division (if you intend to use a trade name)
- Once approved by the board, schedule your exam with the testing provider
- After passing the examination, the Hawaii Contractors License Board will reach out to you to satisfy all license requirements, such as Workers' Compensation Insurance, Liability & Property Damage Insurance, place of business, and any other fees. Once those requirements are met, the board will issue you a license
