The Specialty Electrician Contractor License allows you to do the following:

• Perform experienced electrical work in a limited or specialized area:
  • HVAC
  • Low Voltage
  • Electric Sign
  • Single Family Dwelling

How to Get the Specialty Electrician Contractor’s License in West Virginia?

1. Fulfill the requirements:
   • 4000 hours or two years of electrical work experience relevant to the specialty area the applicant is applying for; these are:
     • Electric Sign
     • Low Voltage
     • Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning
     • Single Family Residential Dwelling
2. Fill out the application form to schedule the Office’s Electrical examination (dates and locations), and return all the documents to:

   • Candidates also have the option to apply online and schedule the examination through the Public Portal established by the Office
3. Acquire the license after successfully passing the exam and approval of the West Virginia Fire Commission Office of the State Fire Marshal
