State Licenses

Building Construction

Tests a candidate’s knowledge of the construction of commercial buildings, single- and multiple-unit residential dwellings, and accessory-use structures, all of which shall not exceed three stories in height. Does not include any electrical, mechanical, plumbing, or liquefied petroleum gas work.

Concrete

Concrete Contractor means the scope of the certification includes and is limited to the execution of contracts requiring skill, knowledge, ability, and experience to install, repair, maintain, and replace, concrete foundations designed to accept any structure when in the design of that structure, a footer is required.

General Construction

Tests a candidate’s knowledge of the construction, repair, alteration, remodeling, addition to, subtraction from, improvement, and demolition of any building or structure including related improvements to real estate excluding electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and liquefied petroleum gas work related thereto.

Master Plumbing with Gas

Tests a candidate’s knowledge of the installation, repair, maintenance, and extension of any plumbing system, including drains, waste, sanitary vents, water supply, fixtures, and indirect wastes; installation, repair, and maintenance of gas piping systems, including gas piping, appliances, vents, flues, tanks, and other related appurtenances.

Master Mechanical

Tests a candidate’s knowledge of the design, installation, maintenance, repair, alteration, and extension of air conditioning, refrigeration, warm air heating, low and high pressure boilers, ventilation systems, duct systems, unfired pressure vessels, fuel transmission lines, and related appurtenances.

Residential Construction

Tests a candidate’s knowledge of construction, remodeling, repair, and improvement of single or multiple residential dwelling units as defined by the building code.

Roofing

Tests a candidate’s knowledge of the installation, repair, and replacement of roof coverings, including roof deck insulation, roof coating, painting, covering, use of sheet metal products incidental to roofing work or other related material, and installation of nonstructural decking and siding.

Standard Framing

Framing Contractor means any person or firm qualified and certified by the board whose scope of work is to install any wood products in a building including, but not limited to, rough framing, structural and nonstructural trusses, sheathing and metal framing; and the work of the finish carpentry contractor.

Standard Drywall

Drywall Contractor means any person or firm qualified and certified by the board whose scope of work is limited to the installation of drywall and all necessary and incidental metal accessories, including non-load bearing studs, runners, hangers, channels, drywall metal suspension accessories, and prefabricated ceiling materials; and the preparation of the surface over which drywall product is to be applied.

Standard Residential Electrician

Includes the planning, installation, repair, alteration, and maintenance of electric conductors, raceways, and equipment for light, heat, and power in one-, two and three-family dwellings.

Standard Journeyman Plumber with Gas

A Journeyman Plumber can engage in the installation, repair, maintenance, and extension of any plumbing system, including drains, waste, sanitary vents, water supply, fixtures, and indirect wastes; installation, repair, and maintenance of gas piping systems, including gas piping, appliances, vents, flues, tanks, and other related appurtenances.

Standard Journeyman Mechanical

In order for an applicant to be certified as a mechanical journeyman or specialty journeyman by the board, the applicant must demonstrate possession of the knowledge, ability, and skill to perform mechanical work in accordance with the plans and specifications therefore and in compliance with the building code and other applicable codes and regulations.

Standard Journeyman Electrician

In order to be eligible to receive certification from the board as a journeyman electrician, the applicant shall demonstrate possession of the skill, knowledge, and experience to install, repair, alter, add to, or design, in compliance with the law, electrical wiring, luminaries, appliances, apparatus, raceways, conduits, fire alarm systems, or any part thereof, which generate, transmit, transform, or utilize electrical energy in any form, including the electrical installations and systems within plants and sub-stations, all in compliance with applicable plans, specifications, codes, laws, and regulations.

Standard Master Electrician

In order to be eligible to receive certification from the board as a master electrician and/or electrical contractor, the applicant shall demonstrate possession of the experience, knowledge, and skill to install, repair, alter, add to, or design electrical wiring, luminaries, appliances, apparatus, raceways, conduits, fire alarm systems, or any part thereof, which generate, transmit, transform, or utilize electrical energy in any form, including the electrical installations and systems within plants and sub-stations, all in compliance with applicable plans, specifications, codes, laws, and regulations.

Unlimited Swimming Pool

Tests a candidate’s knowledge of the construction, service, and repair of all types and kinds of residential and commercial swimming pools. Includes excavation and grading, construction, appurtenances, and installation of all equipment. Does not include direct connections to a sanitary sewer system or to potable water lines, nor the grounding and bonding of metal surfaces, nor the making of any electrical connections.
