How to Install a Driveway Culvert Pipe

  1. Plan the project
  2. File the necessary paperwork
  3. Contact the local utility companies to mark where their buried lines are
  4. Mark where you plan to install the culvert with string and stakes
  5. Add 3/4-inch to 2-inch gravel mix to a depth of 2 1/2 inches with the loader
  6. Lay a carpenter’s level on top of the packed gravel to ensure that the base is higher on one end than the other
  7. Set the driveway tube in position on top of the gravel base, maintaining the slope
  8. Add 6 inches of 3/4-inch to 1-inch gravel on both sides of the culvert pipe
  9. Cover the driveway culvert pipe with a layer of 3/4-inch to 2-inch gravel mix

  4. Set the manhole in place
  5. Tie the pipe stubs to help move and position the manhole into place
  6. Secure the manhole with anchors
  7. Install pipe stubs for connection between the two pipes and make it watertight
  8. With the fiberglass manhole set and secured, the excavation can now be backfilled
