Collier County Contractor Licenses

Select a license to view its requirements, definition, exams, books, and classes. If your license is not listed as Collier County License, please select a Florida License. Collier County requires all applicants to take the Business & Law examination. Except for the following three licenses: Journeyman Electrician, Journeyman Plumber, and Journeyman Air Conditioning.

Collier County is currently regulating specialty local licenses. As of July 1st, 2023, certain local Certificate of Compentecy's may be affected and expired. Keep an eye out for update information on the Collier Contractor Licensing Board.

Construction Licenses in Collier County

General Contractor

Unlimited as to the type of construction work.

Acoustical (Business Exam Only)

Installation of extension of any acoustical or suspended acoustical ceiling.

Air Conditioning Contractor Class A

Installation of central air conditioning, refrigeration, heating and ventilating systems, including ductwork in connection with a complete system only to the extent such ductwork is performed by the contractor as is necessary to make complete an air-distribution system, boiler and unfired pressure vessel systems, and all appurtenances, apparatus or equipment used in connection therewith; installing piping, insulation of pipes, vessels and ducts, pressure and process piping, pneumatic control piping and connection of power wiring; to install a drain from an air conditioning unit to an existing safe waste or other approved disposal other than a direct connection to a sanitary system. Shall not include any work such as liquefied petroleum or natural gas fuel lines within buildings, potable water lines or connections thereto, sanitary sewer lines, swimming pool piping, and filters, or electrical power wiring on the line side of the disconnect switch.

Air Conditioning Contractor Class B

Limited to twenty-five (25) tons of cooling and five hundred thousand (500,000) Btu of heating in any one (1) system. Installation of central air conditioning, refrigeration, heating and ventilating systems, including ductwork in connection with a complete system only to the extent such ductwork is performed by the contractor as is necessary to make complete an air-distribution system being installed under this classification; construction of piping and insulation of pipes, vessels, and ducts; to disconnect or reconnect power wiring on the load side of the disconnect switch and low-voltage heating, ventilating air conditioning control wiring; and to install a condensate drain from an air conditioning unit to an existing safe waste or other approved disposal other than a direct connection to a sanitary system. Shall not include any work such as liquefied petroleum or natural gas fuel lines within buildings, potable water lines or connections thereto, sanitary sewer lines, swimming pool piping, and filters, or electrical power wiring on the line side of the disconnect switch.

Air Conditioning Contractor Class C

Limited to the servicing of air conditioning, heating, or refrigeration systems, including duct alterations, which may include duct cleaning and equipment sanitizing which requires at least a partial disassembly of the system. Placement of fire safety and fire-stopping materials shall be permitted on wall, ceiling, and floor penetrations.

Alarm System I (Burglar & Fire)

Installation of intrusion detection, fire detection, and signaling systems.

Alarm System II (Burglar Only | Less than 5,000 sf)

Installation of burglar alarm circuits and equipment.

Aluminum/Screen Enclosure

Installation of screened porches, screened enclosures, pool enclosures, pre-formed panel-post, and beam roofs, mobile home panel roof-overs, residential glass and window door enclosures, vinyl panel window enclosures and single-story self-contained aluminum utility storage structures not exceeding seven hundred twenty (720) square feet, wood framing for walls of uninhabitable utility storage structures, raised wood decks for enclosures, glass windows, doors, siding, soffit, fascia, gutters, and preformed panel-post and beam roofs.

Aluminum/Screen Enclosure w/Concrete

Installation of aluminum structures, including screen rooms with solid or screen roofs, metal siding, soffits, gutters, and awnings.

Building Contractor

Construction of commercial and single-dwelling or multiple-dwelling residential buildings, which commercial or residential buildings do not exceed three stories in height, and accessory use structures in connection therewith or limited to remodeling of any size building if the services do not affect the structural members of the building.

Cabinet Installation (Business Exam Only)

Construction of cabinets and millwork. The scope of permitted work shall include, but not be limited to, kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, accessory cabinets, countertops, office furniture, and millwork items that have been manufactured for installation on job site locations.

Carpentry

Installation of all types of structural wood construction, including any type of windows and doors.

Concrete Forming and Placing

Installation of concrete foundations designed to accept any structure when in the design of that structure, a footer is required and it involves the pouring and finishing of concrete driveways, sidewalks, patios, and miscellaneous slabs.

Concrete Placing and Finishing

Construction of pouring, placing, and finishing concrete flatwork (floors, slabs on grade, sidewalks, etc.) including placement of edge forms, mesh reinforcement, and plastic vapor barriers incidental thereto.

Concrete (Pneumatically placed only)

Construction of pressure equipment, mix material and apply according to building codes(restricted to pneumatically placed concrete).

Decorative Metal (Business Exam Only)

Installation of decorative metal fixtures; such work should be decorative in nature and nonstructural in function; the materials used in the manufacturing and installation of said products may be of ferrous or nonferrous materials.

Demolition/Wrecking

Construction of demolition and removal of structures, such as dwellings, commercial buildings, and foundations.

Dredging

Construction of mechanical and hydraulic dredging methods, equipment, sediment disposal, and marine safety.

Drywall

Installation of gypsum drywall products to wood and metal studs, wood and steel joists, and metal runners, including the preparation of the surface over which the drywall product is to be applied, and the placement of metal studs, runners, and all necessary trim.

Epoxy Stone (Business Exam Only)

Construction to batch and mix aggregates, epoxy, hardener, and gravel to specifications, or to construct forms and framework for the casting and shaping of epoxy and aggregate, or to pour, place and finish over a concrete base.

Excavation

Excavation or removal of material such as rock, gravel, sand, canals, lakes, levees, and includes the clearing of land of surface debris; and vegetation, the grubbing of roots, the removal of debris; and the leveling and grading of the surface lands incidental thereto.

Exterior Covering by Artificial Stucco System

Installation of exterior insulation and finish systems (EIFS), exterior one coat stucco systems, and exterior dry stock block wall systems whenever the specific system requires its own certification (approval) of the installer. EIFS includes the following registered trademarks/tradenames: SEWALL, DRYVIT, PAREX EIFS, Vitricon energic, Senergy systems, TEC Ful-O-Mite systems, Palko systems, Thoro's EIFS systems, and USG EIFS.

Fence Erection (Business Exam Only)

Installation of fencing or decorative prefabricated walls on grade.

Floor Covering Installation (Business Exam Only)

Installation of carpet, sheet vinyl, and/or all types of wood flooring. This category does not include, tile, marble, or terrazzo.

Garage Door Installation (Business Exam Only)

Installation of garage doors.

Gasoline Tank and Pump

Installation of any aboveground system used for the storing and dispensing of gasoline, kerosene, diesel oils, and similar liquid hydrocarbon fuels or mixtures (not to include pollutant storage).

Glass and Glazing

Install all makes and kinds of glass and glasswork, and execute the glazing frames, panels, sash and door and holding metal frames, ornamental decorations, mirrors, tub, shower enclosures, and portable partitions. The scope of work shall include the installation of hurricane shutters or devices that are integral to the window system.

Hurricane Shutter/Awning

Erection of awnings or canopies of metal including other materials, incidental thereto, in or on buildings or other structures.

Insulation (All Types except Building)

Installation of any insulation primarily installed to prevent loss or gain of heat, from internal or external sources on pipes, vessels, ducts, fire-stopping materials, sprayed-on fire-resistive materials, or built-up refrigerated boxes or rooms, and acoustical materials.

Insulation (Building)

Installation of insulation on or in walls and attics, in compliance with the Florida Model Energy Code.

Irrigation Sprinkler

Installation of lawn sprinkling systems, and any appliances, apparatus, or equipment connected therewith, but can't make connections to a potable water system or perform any service on irrigation for the purpose of agriculture.

Journeyman Air Conditioning

Perform work in the air conditioning trade while employed or supervised by an air conditioning or mechanical contractor.

Journeyman Electrician

Perform work in the electrical trades while employed or supervised by an electrical contractor.

Journeyman Plumber

Perform work in the plumbing trades while employed or supervised by a plumbing contractor.

Landscaping Restricted

Installation and/or removal of trees, shrubs, sod, decorative stone and/or rocks, timber and plant materials, and concrete paving units for sidewalks, patios and decks only, whether or not incidental to landscaping, prepackaged fountains, or waterfalls, provided same does not include connection to a sanitary sewer system, portable water line, or to any electrical installation, which tasks must be performed by tradesmen licensed in the relevant trade.

Marine, Seawall & Dock Construction

Installation of piers and docks; piles or pilings, columns, posts, stanchions. Shall include all construction below, above or beyond, the mean low water line, for the sole purpose of constructing erecting or dismantling of piers, docks, and seawalls.

Master Electrician

Construction electrical systems, fire alarm systems, and all appurtenances, equipment, and apparatus used in connection therewith in accordance with the building code and all other applicable codes and regulations, and to supervise and direct other persons who engage in such activities.

Master Plumber

Installation of any plumbing system, including waste, drains, vents, water supply, and fixtures and also install, maintain or repair gas piping, appliances, linens, laterals, tanks, and other appurtenances in connection therewith.

Master Plumber with Gas

Installation of any plumbing system, including waste, drains, vents, water supply, and fixtures and also install, maintain or repair gas piping, appliances, linens, laterals, tanks, and other appurtenances in connection therewith.

Mechanical Contractor

Installation of central air conditioning, refrigeration, heating and ventilating systems, including ductwork in connection with a complete system only to the extent such ductwork is performed by the contractor as is necessary to make the complete and air-distribution system, boiler and unfired pressure vessel systems, lift station equipment and piping, and appurtenances, apparatus, pipes, vessels and ducts, pressure and process piping, oxygen lines, nitrous oxide piping, ink, and chemical lines, fuel transmission lines, and natural gas fuel lines within buildings; connection of power wiring on the load side of the disconnect switch and low-voltage heating, ventilating and air conditioning control wiring; and to install a condensate drain form an air conditioning unit to an existing safe waste or other approved disposal other than a direct connection to a sanitary system. Shall not include any works such as liquefied petroleum gas fuel lines within buildings, potable water lines, or connections thereto, sanitary sewer lines, swimming pool piping, and filters, or electrical power wiring.

Masonry

Installation of any assembly of pre-formed masonry block, glass block, brick, or other masonry products in conjunction with the use of a compatible binder or filler for the purpose of creating a structure of any type, including the forming and pouring of the beams and lintels.

Nonrecreational Pond Waterfall Fountain (Business Exam Only)

Construction of non-recreational ponds, waterfalls, and/or fountains. However, the scope of such work does not include direct connections to a sanitary sewer system, potable water lines, or any electrical installation.

Painting

Preparation of paint and related liquids or viscous products by brush, roller, or spray methods to all surfaces including roofs as well as cleaning, sandblasting, caulking and sizing surfaces, and to apply waterproofing products in the same manner to the inside or outside of vertical surfaces.

Paving (Commercial or Unlimited)

Construction of roads, airport runways and aprons, parking lots, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, storm drainage facilities, and to perform the excavating, clearing, and grading incidental thereto.

Paving Blocks

Construction of driveways, sidewalks, patios, and decks, using concrete paving units.

Plastering and Stucco

Application of the mixtures of sand or another aggregate, plaster, gypsum, portland cement, quick lime, and water, or any combination of these materials, to create a surface which offers mechanical key support of such coatings or to which such coatings will adhere by suction, and to provide a key or suction basis necessary and incidental to the support of such coatings. A Plastering and Stucco Contractor may apply Marcite to pools, but may not erect wood stud or masonry walls.

Residential Contractor

Construction of one-family, two-family, or three-family residences not exceeding two habitable stories above no more than one uninhabitable story and accessory use structure in connection therewith

Roof Painting, Coating, and Cleaning (Business Exam Only)

Limited to clean, paint, or coat a roof by means of pressure-operated equipment, hand application, or otherwise. This category does not include roof repair.

Roofing Unlimited

Installation of all types of roofing, waterproofing, and another coating, unless the coating is represented to protect, repair, waterproof, stop leaks or extend the life of the roof and the materials in the connection therewith of any structure.

Sandblasting (Business Exam Only)

Limited to operate a sandblasting machine.

Satellite Dish Installation (Business Exam Only)

Installation of any satellite dish provided all work is performed in accordance with applicable Collier County or city ordinances. If the installation includes a concrete base, the base shall be limited in size to two cubic yards of concrete.

Sealing and Striping (Business Exam Only)

Construction to seal or stripe driveways, parking lots, sidewalks, and patios.

Sheet Metal

Installation of ferrous or nonferrous metalwork of U.S. No. 10 gauge or it's equivalent or lighter gauge and of other materials, including, but not limited to, fiberglass, used in lieu thereof and of air-handling systems including the setting of air-handling equipment and reinforcement of same and including the balancing of air-handling systems and any duct cleaning and equipment sanitizing which requires at least a partial disassembly of the system. Does not include roofing.

Sign (Electrical) Contractor

Electrical entrance requirements for metering and main disconnect of remote billboards or signs which are independent of any structure or building and which require no more than twenty-five (25) Kilowatts at two hundred fifty (250) volts maximum.

Sign Contractor Non-Electric (Business Exam Only)

Installation of any non-electrical sign provided all work is performed in accordance with applicable Collier County and city ordinances. This category does not include the construction of freestanding structural signs.

Structural Steel Erection

Erection of structural steel shapes and plates, including such minor field fabrication as may be necessary, of any profile, perimeter or cross-section, that are or may be used as structural members for buildings and structures, and the erection of communication towers, including riveting, welding and rigging, only in connection therewith.

Swimming Pool Class A (Commercial)

Construction and servicing of any swimming pool, or hot tub spa, whether public, private, or otherwise, regardless of use. Installation of existing equipment, any cleaning or equipment sanitizing which requires at least a partial disassembling, excluding filter changes, and of the new pool/spa equipment, interior finishes, package pool heaters, all of the perimeter piping and filter piping, and the construction of equipment rooms or housing for pool/spa equipment. Does not include direct connections to a sanitary sewer system or to potable water lines. Modification of equipment permanently attached to and associated with the pool or spa for the purpose of water treatment or cleaning of the pool or spa requires licensure. Shall not be required for the cleaning of the pool or spa in any way that does not affect the structural integrity of the pool or spa or its associated equipment.

Swimming Pool Class B (Residential)

Construction of any residential swimming pool, or hot tub or spa, in areas attached to one-family or two-family dwellings. Repair or replacement of existing equipment, any cleaning or equipment sanitizing which requires at least a partial disassembling, excluding filter changes, and the installation of new pool/spa equipment, interior finishes, the installation of package pool heaters, the installation of all perimeter piping and filter piping, and the construction of equipment rooms or housing for pool/spa equipment. Does not include direct connections to a sanitary sewer system or to potable water lines. Modification of equipment permanently attached to and associated with the pool or spa for the purpose of water treatment or cleaning of the pool or spa requires licensure; however, the usage of such equipment for the purpose of water treatment or cleaning shall not require licensure unless the usage involves construction, modification, or replacement of such equipment. Shall not be required for the cleaning of the pool or spa in any way that does not affect the structural integrity of the pool or spa or its associated equipment.

Swimming Pool Class C (Service) (Business Exam Only)

Maintaining and treating the water in existing swimming pools, both public and private, making minor repairs to existing pool masonry such as patching cracks in pool bottoms and walls, repainting or resurfacing the walls and bottoms of pools, performing preventive maintenance and replacing existing equipment and appurtenances thereof of swimming pools, such as pumps, valves, filters, and chlorinators; provided, such a contractor may only replace existing equipment and appurtenances in private pools of single-family residences.

Tile and Marble

Erection of tile in concrete, clay, or other material, applied to floors or walls and shall include the application of base courses. It also includes non-load-bearing structural elements.

Tile, Marble, and Terrazzo

Construction to mix, prepare, and finish terrazzo, prepare the base, and set tile, marble, and stone.

Tree Removal and Trimming

Removal of trees as regulated under Florida Statute and local ordinances.

Underground Utility and Excavation

Construction on public or private property, whether accomplished through open excavation or other means, including, but not limited to, directional drilling, auger boring, jacking and boring, trenchless technologies, wet and dry taps, routing, and slip lining of main sanitary sewer collection systems, main water distribution systems, and storm sewer collection systems, and the continuation of utility lines from the main systems to a point of termination up to and including the meter location for the individual occupancy, sewer collection systems at property line on residential or single-occupancy commercial properties, or on multi-occupancy properties at a manhole or "wye" lateral extended to an invert elevation as engineered to accommodate future building sewers, water distribution systems, or storm sewer collection systems at storm sewer structures. Shall not install any piping that is an integral part of a fire protection system, as defined in F.S. § 633.021(7), beginning at the point where the piping is used exclusively for such a system.
